What TRTP is

TRTP stands for The Richards Trauma Process. It’s a structured, three-step process for working with the things from our past that still shape how we feel, think and react today. It was created by Judith Richards, and you can read more on the official TRTP website.

What I love about TRTP therapy is that you don’t have to dig through the past or relive any of it. It works with what those experiences left behind, not the story of what happened.

How does TRTP work?

TRTP starts from a simple idea. What hurt us in the past doesn’t just sit there as a memory. It also shapes what we believe about ourselves and how we react today, often without us noticing. So instead of only talking it through or learning to cope, we go to the source of those beliefs and reactions and change them there. It’s about resolving what’s driving things, not just managing the symptoms.

I guide you through three connected steps, usually across three weeks. Each step has its own purpose, and I tailor the work to you, your experiences and what you want. If TRTP is right for you, we’ll talk through the schedule in your free strategy session.

1. Work with deeply held beliefs

Early experiences tend to leave us with deep beliefs that quietly run our lives.

Beliefs like “I am not enough”, “I am powerless” or “I don’t deserve to be well”. We find them and change them at the core.

The aim is to swap those limiting programs for positive ones, so a different pattern for life becomes possible.

2. Address the emotional impact of the past

Here we focus on easing the distress that’s still attached to what happened.

In the TRTP model, experiences that were never resolved can stay active below the surface, and the body keeps responding as though the past is still happening. This can feed anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and overwhelm.

It’s why a small trigger today can set off a much bigger reaction. It may be stirring up far more than what’s happening right now.

3. Consolidate change and move forward

We notice what has changed, deal with anything that’s left, and move on with more clarity in your relationships and choices, and a stronger sense of yourself.

A gentler way in

If the thought of going back over the past makes you want to run a mile, that’s okay. TRTP doesn’t ask you to retell your story or go through it all again.

We work with the patterns, beliefs and emotional reactions that keep showing up, step by step. Before we begin, we’ll have a chat to make sure TRTP is the right fit for you.

Why TRTP

In my coaching I kept seeing the same thing. So much of what we feel and do today was shaped long before we were old enough to choose it.

Insight can take us a long way. TRTP gives me another way to support you with what’s underneath.

Working with me

I’m a TRTP practitioner, and I work with you online over Zoom, wherever you are. If you’re curious, book a free strategy session and ask me anything.

How a session works

I’ll walk you through exactly what to expect in your free strategy session, before we begin. Please book the 45 minute option for this call, so we have time to go through how TRTP works and what it would look like for you.

Is TRTP for you?

If something from the past still shows up in your body, your reactions or your relationships, and you’d like to work with it gently, let’s have a chat.

TRTP is not a replacement for medical or mental health care. If you’re in crisis, please contact your GP or call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

TRTP therapy online, from Melbourne and around the world

I work with TRTP online, so you can do it from home, wherever you are in Melbourne or anywhere in the world. All you need is a quiet spot, a decent internet connection and a cuppa if you like.

Working online means no travel and no waiting rooms. You get to be in a space that feels comfortable and safe to you, which matters when you’re doing something that can feel big.

What can TRTP help with?

TRTP can suit anyone who notices old patterns, beliefs or emotional reactions that keep showing up. Maybe you feel anxious or on edge without knowing why, you’re hard on yourself, or you react in ways that don’t feel like the real you.

The Richards Trauma Process was created by Judith Richards to work with the lasting impact of past experiences, gently and without having to relive them. It sits alongside medical and mental health care and doesn’t replace it. If you’re working with a doctor or psychologist, that support can continue while we work together.

TRTP and health and life coaching

Some people come to me for TRTP first, some for health and life coaching, and some for both. They work well together. TRTP works with what’s underneath, and coaching helps you build the habits and life you want on top of that.

You can read more about my background and training too, or book a free strategy session and we’ll talk it through.
