As a health coach, I get so much joy helping women transform their health.   But when it’s a family member – better still – my mum… then that just takes the Keto cake.

Let me tell you about my mums story.

My mum is 75. She has struggled with her weight for as long as I can remember. I know she’s tried many diets, but has always found them difficult, and any weight lost has been regained. She has been an emotional eater, a big snacker, and has never really had much energy to exercise.

About 7 years ago, we almost lost mum when she had an pulmonary embolism. If the registrar from Albury hospital wasn’t on to what was going on when she went to the emergency, she would have died very soon after.

From then on my poor mum was a walking medicine chest. Sooo many tests and medications.

I had obviously been in my mums ear about the health benefits of a low carb/Keto diet since my hubby and I found it 5 years ago. But it finally all started to make sense for her about 18 months ago (yes at 73!).

So what’s happened in this 18 months?

She has gradually eliminated sugar, then 12 months ago she started reducing her starchy carbs (rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, most fruit except berries and kiwi fruit).

She now eats full fat dairy products, meat, fish, eggs, and lots of greens.

In the last 5 months, she has gradually found the energy to increase her exercise by taking up regular Pilates.

She has come off her blood pressure meds (after being on them for as long as she can remember); she’s stopped her cholesterol meds, no longer on meds for hiatus hernia, reflux and indigestion.

And she’s lost 13kg!

And these photos? These photos were taken in Montenegro. In 2016 (in the pink) my mum couldn’t make it on to this enormous bench stool. In the yellow, Mum and dad were back there last month, and guess what? She made it!!

I’m so proud of you mum (and dad, who has also changed a lot of his diet and is losing his insulin belly).

I hope this extends her time and her quality of life here with us all on this earth.
